What to expect from your teeth straightening journey
1. The initial consultation
Every teeth straightening journey begins with a consultation with a specialist orthodontist or dentist. It’s a conversation which will cover your expectations, and will allow the dentist to examine your smile before advising on the best orthodontic option for you. It’s also a chance to find out more about the procedure in depth, including how long it will last and how much it will cost. The clinician may use an intraoral scanner to create a 3D simulation of your new smile, or they may take physical impressions of your teeth in order to make a bespoke appliance.
2. Your teeth-straightening treatment
Once your treatment journey is discussed and agreed upon, a treatment plan will be custom-made to your requirements and will include a series of check-up and alteration appointments to monitor your progress. The aligners or braces will then be made and an appointment will be set for them to be fitted. Following this, you’ll see your dentist or orthodontist every few weeks or months, during which your clinician will track your progress and make any adjustments needed.
3. Orthodontic aftercare
As your journey comes to an end, your dentist or orthodontist may suggest treatments including composite bonding (to correct chipped teeth or discolouration) and teeth whitening. Once your treatment is over, you’ll be provided with a retainer to maintain your new straighter smile and advice on how long it should be worn.
